On the Paths of the Boka Croats, presented at the European Parliament, highlights the rich cultural and historical ties between Montenegro and Croatia. As a part of this project, I spent time with the Boka Navy, a centuries-old organization that in 2021 became Montenegro’s first UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage. This recognition reflects not only its deep historical value but also its enduring importance to the identity of the region.
The project tells a story that connects people across generations and borders. Many members of the Navy have historical and family ties with Croatia, some of them being Croats themselves.
Exhibiting these photographs in Zagreb and Kotor showed me how deeply this heritage resonates with others, reminding us of the importance of preserving and celebrating the traditions that shape who we are.
